AFM Safecoat Interior Wall Paints
Safecoat paint formulas are uniquely designed for optimal indoor air quality while achieving beautiful and durable finishes. They are ideally suited for areas in which the health of occupants is of particular concern, including schools, hospitals, homes and offices.
Use on: walls, ceilings, wallboard, properly cured and primed plaster, masonry and primed metal.
- Features: No VOCs, formaldehyde, ammonia, crystalline silica, ethylene glycol, aromatic hydrocarbon compounds, exempt solvents or hazardous air pollutants (HAPs). Additionally, the colorants we use in our paints have low/no VOCs nor Alkylphenol Ethoxylates (APE), which are surfactants (detergents) which can be oestrogenic (hormone disrupting) and bioaccumulative in the environment (meaning they don't break down and increase concentration up the food chain).
- Low odor during application (which is typically not noxious or bothersome) and are odor free once cured.
- Fights indoor air pollution, mitigates outgassing from the substrate (including recent coats of conventional paint).
- Meets or exceeds all federal and state air quality regulations, including California.
- SCS Certified for Indoor Advantage Gold

AFM Safecoat Primecoat HPV Primer
It equalizes the absorption rate of topcoat paints over a variety of surfaces with different porosities, and helps to eliminate decorating problems over textured sheetrock and tape joints on wallboard.
Solves finishing problems such as "telegraphing" or "joint banding" by equalizing porosity and texture, filling voids left by today's building materials, so that top coats cover more evenly.
Use on: New drywall, drywall compound and unpainted drywall texture. It is especially used for sealing in chemicals from the new drywall or behind it.
AFM Safecoat Transitional Primer
Safecoat Transitional Primer is a premium quality, waterbased, flat finish universal primer specifically formulated to solve difficult application problems without the use of toxic and malodorous chemicals.
Because it has an extremely tight and efficient polymer network, it is when properly applied particularly well suited for transitioning from existing oil based painted surfaces to waterbased coatings. It is when properly applied useful as a stain blocker for many of the knot holes, water soluble stains and oils, tannins and terpenes in wood which can "bleed through" to the surface upon the application of traditional waterbased primers.
Use on: Most interior and exterior surfaces: walls, ceilings, wood and wood trim, fully cured plaster, stucco, masonry and drywall.
Features:
- Extremely low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) (12 grams/liter)
- No exempted solvents, acetone, ammonia, crystalline silica, ethylene glycol, formaldehyde, formaldehyde precursors (chemicals that create formaldehyde once they enter the atmosphere), odor masking agents, heavy metals, or other known toxic materials or suspected carcinogens.
- Additionally, the colorants we use in our paints have no VOCs nor Alkylphenol Ethoxylates (APE), which are surfactants (detergents) which can be oestrogenic (hormone disrupting) and bioaccumulative in the environment (meaning they don't break down and increase concentration up the food chain).
- Products are structured to literally create a "safe coat," with a unique molecular formulation designed to seal surfaces, thus reducing "offgassing," or the emission of toxins into your environment.
- Naturally low in odor

Color Is... Paint Color Fandeck
We can make thousands upon thousands of colors into our AFM Safecoat paints. Choosing a color(s) can be both exciting and nerve wracking. We can color match a wide variety of other brands -- Ben Moore, Sherwin Williams/Duron, etc. into our Safecoat paints. However, it's often easier to choose from our "house" color collection, called "Color Is...". Order a fan deck, which houses all 1300+ colors within the line, to help make your selections.
You can preview the Color Is... color collection here. However, keep in mind that a computer or phone screen likely will not portray colors accurately or reflect true lighting, opacity, saturation, space layout and other factors that impact real color(s) in a given space. We recommend using the online tool to preview color options then order the fandeck and/or quarts to test color(s) in your space.
And, don't worry about the color in terms of offgassing. Regardless of where the color comes from, every single color in our Safecoat paint maintains our tradition for healthy spaces, avoiding VOCs, solvents, acetone, ethylene glycol, carcinogens, hormone disruptors, and other chemicals of concern.
Fandecks in new & clean condition can be returned for refund (minus shipping), once you've finished making your color selections.

AFM Safecoat Durotone wood stain
USE: on a variety of wood projects, including furniture, trim, and floors.
PREPARATION: Wood surface should be cleaned of dirt, dust, grease, wax, silicone, soap and oil, and completely free of mold, mildew or fungus contamination. To avoid lapping and extend wet edge time over large areas, water dampen the wood surface just before applying DuroTone. Because of wide variations in the way different woods accept stain, we particularly recommend that users always test in small, inconspicuous areas for appearance and compatibility before applying to the entire surface.
APPLICATION: Before using, stir well, then apply as is stirring occasionally during use. Intermix (boxing) all containers of the same color to ensure uniformity before applying. Apply with the grain using a brush or pad applicator always keeping a wet edge. Note: these instructions are intended to be general only and not exhaustive. The applicator should determine what preparation and techniques are best suited to the specific surface.
COVERAGE: One pint of Safecoat DuroTone covers approximately 56 square feet in one coat depending on surface porosity and the intensity of the stain color desired.
DRY/CURE TIME: Re-coatable after 2 hours in normal conditions. Normal conditions include a dry surface, access to fresh air flow, moderate humidity, and temperatures above 55 degrees F.
CLEAN-UP: Clean tools and equipment while they are still wet with a warm soapy water solution, such as Safecoat SuperClean.
Variations in wood species, tone and grain will affect color and finished appearance. We always recommending test application on your wood. Colors on screen and printout may not be accurate.
NOTE: These are clearance prices; all sales are final.
AFM Safecoat EcoLacq

It has very low odor and VOC content, allowing it to be used even in the homes of the chemically sensitive. Does not contain formaldehyde.
Safecoat® EcoLacq seals in outgassing from the substrate, and has superior resistance to stains, marring, and fingerprint marks.
Available in high gloss and matte sheens.
USE ON: Unfinished (or properly prepared and sanded previously finished) wooden surfaces such as wood cabinetry and doors, paneling, furniture, and wood railings.
High solids, more film build, better flow, higher luster. Comparable to conventional lacquers in performance without the toxicity.
APPLICATION:
For detailed product and application specifications, please refer to the specsheet here. For specific spray application instructions, refer to the Ecolacq Spray Guide (pdf) here. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND TESTING WITH YOUR SPRAY EQUIPMENT TO GET A COMFORTABLE, REPEATABLE SET-UP.
USE THIN COATS. Stir well before use; then apply with a quality nylon brush, roller or airless sprayer. Always wear painters mask when spraying. Thick application, high humidity or conditions other than normal will cause the product to dry and cure more slowly.
SURFACE PREPARATION:
Ideal painting conditions include: dry surface, fresh airflow, 30-70% relative humidity, 55° to 85° F.
Clean surfaces of dirt, grease, mildew and oil.
Raw wood should be primed with Ecolacq Sandable Primer and completely dry before Ecolacq application.
DRYING/CURING TIME:
Can be recoated after 4 hours, although for best results, wait at least 8 hours before recoating. Normal conditions include a dry surface, access to fresh air flow, moderate humidity, and temperatures above 55 degrees F.
Use the box below to enter the color you want, including: color name and number, and the color source (fandeck it is from). Please note that colors may not be an exact match due to the lacquer-base being slightly different from the latex-base of the wall paints.
