A quick summary primer on which offgassing sealer to use on wood*:
- Acrylacq is a great furniture finish that can also seal in to mitigate offgassing. This is best for exposed finish surfaces (like cabinet fronts), but no problem if you want to use it in the interiors of furniture pieces. A clear finish available in satin (most popular), matte or gloss finishes.
- Hard Seal seals in to mitigate offgassing; not quite as strong abrasion resistance as the Acrylacq, but can have a stronger bond on some tricky surfaces like PVC. Can be used on the exposed finish surfaces, but typically targeted for the interior surfaces. Only high-gloss finish.
- Safe Seal can stay a bit tacky after it’s dry; meant only for surfaces that will be hidden (like the back of a cabinet against the wall, wood subfloor, etc), and typically use on more porous materials like OSB and particleboards, etc, to seal in to help mitigate offgassing.
- Polyureseal is a strong finish, primarily used on floors, that can also seal in to help mitigate offgassing.
- EcoLacq is similar to Acrylacq, but tinted like paint in 1000s of colors. Available in matte and gloss finishes.
