Rockwool (fka Roxul) ComfortBoard IS (80) is a semi-rigid board version of the Roxul rockwool insulation. It serves as a wonderful problem solver on its own and in combination with the batt versions.
Applications: Specifically engineered for use in exterior walls, cathedral ceilings, attics, basement walls, exposed floors, and heated crawl spaces, for renovations and new construction.
Made of basalt rock and recycled slag (a by-product of steel production that would otherwise go to landfill). Recycled content is minimum 40%.
Comes in boards 24"x48" and in these thicknesses:
1.25": R5; 7 boards; 56 square feet per bag
1.5": R6; 6 boards; 48 square feet per bag
2": R8; 5 boards; 40 square feet per bag
3": R12; 3 boards; 24 square feet per bag

Water repellent yet vapor permeable: Stone wool is water repellent yet vapor permeable. Roxul insulation does not absorb water or hold moisture. Its unique stone wool orientation is ideal for repelling and draining water away from the exterior walls, industrial pipe, interior walls, or whatever Roxul insulation is protecting. And, since Roxul insulation does not absorb water, it will not sag or lose its shape, and will retain its R-value. So the R-value installed today, will be the same for years to come.
Completely resistant to mold, mildew, rot and bacterial growth.
Its non-directional fiber structure and higher density give it better dimensional stability--it won't sag inside walls.
Easy to Cut and Install for Optimal Fit: allows you to accurately trim the insulation to the wall or ceiling cavity--and get an optimal fit around electrical boxes, wiring, plumbing and ductwork. The result is better R-value and maximum sound absorption.
Fire Resistant: Its unique composition won't burn or release toxic gases or smoke when exposed to high heat. Roxul offers a barrier that can delay the spread of fire and provide your family with precious extra minutes to escape. And it can withstand temperatures of up to 2150°F (1177°C)--well above heat levels of typical house fires.
