Vida Cork 1"x3" Plank - Almada Brown Olive

Vida Cork 1"x3" Plank - Almada Brown Olive

Item #: VIDACALP
Cork flooring offers several unique benefits, including great comfort, softness, and health properties, plus when grown right is one of the most sustainable products available. And the Vida line offers a repairable finish (for easier maintenance) and several beautiful, warm patterns.

Features:

  • Easy-to-install, glueless "click" installation system
  • Harvested sustainably in Portugal, where this species of Oak tree is native and can live for hundreds of years
  • Formaldehyde-free High Density Fiber (HDF) core
  • Durable: Prefinished with a UV-cured Polyx hardwax oil that is repairable. Sweeping and cleaning using a hardwood floor cleaner is all that is necessary for regular maintenance. Well maintained, your cork floor will last for decades.
  • Comfortable: Cork provides a comfortable cushion underfoot. Cork bounces back, so recovery from marks caused by furniture will leave minimal residual indentation, less noticeable than on wood, carpet, or vinyl floors. This same resilient quality provides a warm and noiseless surface for any room.
  • Fire Resistant: Cork is a fire inhibitor and will not spread flame. Cork also does not release toxic gasses on combustion.
  • Thermal and Acoustic Insulator: Made up of over 100 million prism shaped cells per cubic inch, each one filled with air, cork inhibits the conduction of temperature and sound. Cork floors reduce impact noise, a great asset for applications such as multi-level housing, office spaces, museums and places of worship. Walking barefoot in your bedroom or bathroom in the middle of a cold night is a warm, quiet, and comfortable experience.
  • Anti-microbial and Insect Repellent: Suberin, an inherent substance of cork, is a natural insect repellent. Even termites are kept away. Cork is anti-microbial and is resistant to mold and mildew. If allergies are a problem, yet you enjoy the comfort and warmth of carpet, cork is the ideal alternative.
Installation tips:
  • Works well in most rooms, however they should not be installed in damp or steamy rooms and are not ideal for high traffic areas
  • Can be floated right over most existing flooring that is in relatively good condition (see installation instructions)
  • Apply a bead of our Weathermaster caulk to fill the gap you leave around all edges/walls. This will still allow expansion and contraction needed in a floating floor, but mitigates against the migration of water in case of an &$34;incident." You will cover this caulked gap with quarter round, threshold or similar accessory.
  • Can be installed over most hydronic (water-based) radiant heating systems (see installation instructions)
  • The UV-cured Polyx hardwax oil finish is durable and easy to spot-repair or refresh.

The cork comes from bark of the cork oak tree, Quercus suber. Harvesting is the ultimate in sustainable production, having survived and thrived over many generations on the Iberian Peninsula (Portugal and Spain) and nearby Mediterranean countries. Because the market for cork provides an incentive to keep forest cover on arid land, the industry helps keep 5 1/2 million acres from turning to desert. Harvesting schedules are set by law to ensure that trees have nine years to heal. Portugal, the largest producer of cork, even makes it a crime to cut down the trees. Producers strip the thick bark in long, wide slabs. They stamp out wine corks first, then grind the scraps and press them back together to make flooring and bulletin boards.

Dimensions: Planks are approximately 1' x 3' x 7/16" thick. There are 6 planks per box; each box covers 17.32 square feet (sf). It is advised to determine the amount of square footage you need, then add 5-10%, to calculate the number of boxes you need.

Note: As a natural product, cork has a detectable odor. Most people consider it pleasant, and it will dissipate in time. People who are especially sensitive to odors should order a sample first to test.
