Paperstone is a popular countertop thanks to its performance and extremely green credentials. It is a composite material made out of recycled paper and proprietary, petroleum-free phenolic resins made from raw materials like cashew nut shell liquid.
Applications: interior countertops, wall cladding, conference tables, signs, cutting boards, window sills, and toilet partitions.
Paperstone comes in three series:
- Certified colors are made from 100% post-consumer standard office paper. It has been FSC certified (Forest Stewardship Council) through the Smartwood program of the Rainforest Alliance. Colors include:
- Obsidian black
- Gunmetal grey
- Chocolate brown
- Plum red
- Indigo blue
- Grass green
- Original colors are made from 100% post-consumer recycled cardboard. Colors include:
- Slate black
- Mocha brown
- Cabernet red
- Denim blue
- Evergreen
- Virgin fiber, available have long been known to have superior tensile, compression, impact and flexural strengths. They are very abrasion resistant. They absorb very little water. They are the products of choice in applications requiring high fire resistance (PaperStone has a Class A fire rating). They are routinely specified for cutting boards and for very demanding, high-use, exterior applications like skateboard ramps.
- A high modulus of elasticity
- Resistant to staining in kitchen applications
- Has been thoroughly tested and certified as non-detectable for formaldehyde by the most demanding test available, the so-called desiccant method test
- PaperStone is warm to the touch
- 15 year manufacturer's warranty
Sheets come in several sizes, including:
- 60" x 144" (5' x 12')
- 60" x 96" (5' x 8')
- 60" x 72" (5' x 6')
- 30" x 144" (2.5' x 12')
- 30" x 96" (2.5' x 8')
- 30" x 72" (2.5' x 6')
- 30" x 48" (2.5' x 4')
The most popular thickness is 1", although 3/4" and 1-1/4" are also available, and other panel thicknesses and sizes can be special ordered.
Mechanical properties:
- 45,000 psi compressive strength
- An unloaded, 1" thick panel of PaperStone will cantilever 18" with less than 1/16th inch deflection.
- Mechanical attachments stay secure in tapped screw holes
- Router and laser detail limited only by workman's imagination
- Structurally rigid and sound in vertical and horizontal applications
A note on the colors: Like all phenolic composites, PaperStone is subject to some color shifting with UV light exposure but, to the maximum extent possible, the coloring systems have been selected for color stability. The color of the finished panel is determined by the recycled paper type, the phenolic resin and the pigments and dyes that are used. Because of all of these factors and the natural tendency of phenolic resins to darken and 'yellow' over time, we cannot guarantee that color will match precisely batch-to-batch. We have instead chosen to let the natural progression of aging proceed to produce an authentic product that matches to your expectation of what a natural product is supposed to do.
