Expanko Traditional Cork flooring uses manufacturing processes dating back to the early 1900s, which allow rich, natural shades and patterns. Varying the oven temperatures and baking times create different shades--
no artificial stains or dyes are used. Cork has a unique cellular composition of over 2.4 million air-filled cells per cubic inch, making it approximately
80% air and giving the cork a number of features:
- Comfortable: to walk on and causes less stress--your joints and bones will enjoy it
- Resilience: it can recover its original dimension when compressed with pinpointed pressure
- Durability: many floors remain in service today after more than 80 years.
- Environmentally Sustainable: the bark of the Cork Oak tree is stripped every 9 years inflicting no damage to the tree. Chemicals are rarely if ever used for pest control or fertilizer. Expanko uses 80-100% post-production waste.
- Excellent Sound Insulator: helps to reduce sound echo and sound transfer
- Non-Toxic: does not contain chemicals that cause allergic reactions.
Dimensions: 12"x12" x 3/16" thick. Other options may be available by special order (contact us for more details): 24"x24" size tile; 5/16" thick; wax finish and unfinished
Square feet per box: 36 (36 tiles). We suggest determining the amount of square footage you need, then add 5-10% to calculate the number of boxes to get.
Installation: Install onto a smooth level subfloor with Expanko adhesive. Above grade use concrete or plywood subfloors. Cork should not be installed below grade unless subfloor moisture emission is less than 3 lbs/1000 ft/24 hours. Traditional glue-down cork floors should not be laid over flooring surfaces including hardwood, vinyl, carpet, stone, and ceramic tile. Refer to the instruction documents below.
Maintenance: Regular damp mopping with a well wrung out mop and mild soap is all that is needed to maintain your cork floor. Polyurethane finished tiles can be refinished many times during the life of the floor. Shade variations are natural and expected. Refer to the maintenance instructions below for details.
Warranty: 10 years
Fading: Like any naturally colored products, cork is susceptible to fading. Expanko cork floors are coated with a UV inhibiting finish which will significantly improve fade resistance but not prevent it. Expanko highly recommends the use of window treatments and windows treated with UV protective coating. In areas under rugs and furniture, fading will not occur and when moved will contrast with the faded areas. Sanding and refinishing the floor will restore the original color.
